Championship Wings!

It was the evening of June 17, 2010, a night that will never be forgotten. Not because the Lakers defeated the Celtics in a classic NBA Finals Game 7. Oh no. More importantly, another new champion was crowned that evening. If Randy Newman wrote a song about it, it might go a something like this: Hot Wings! WE LOVE IT! Yes, a new wing joint on Queen St. West in Toronto is hands down the best in the city. Capon Club member Jeff might disagree but he wasn't there, so it doesn't matter. Attendees included Jon, Jeremy, Jonathan, Adam (no colon, no review), and Hartley (no heart, no review).

REVIEWS:

JEREMY:

Wings- all 8 or better, except for rubys gross honey garlic selection.
Ribs- a solid 7.5
Fries-10
Cutlery-9

JONATHAN:

Wings 7.5. Of the 5 flavours: hot, medium, buffalo ranked far higher than the lackluster honey garlic and super salty jerk style
Fries 8.5
Ribs can be broken down into the two parts, the rib itself 9.5 and the sauce 5
Single wet nap and napkin policy questionable
Refereeing for Laker/Celtic game horrible
Gastrointestinal gaseous byproduct from sorted Caypon Club members...mean and ugly

JON:

Wings 9.5 Outstanding. Finally shook me out of my St. Louis love affair. Big, meaty but no fat. NICE!
Fries 7.5 Wasn't loving the fries as much as everyone else. Found them a bit dull, but did appreciate the non-synthetic taste.
Ribs 7.5 Incredible texture. Not fatty. Nice tenderness. Perfect. Sadly, the sauce was a big letdown. Needs a lot more flavour.
Clientele 8 Would have been a 7 if it had only been your regular cast of apathetic Queen St. hipsters, but they were all really into
the game, cheering and yelling AND there was a wicked, awesome, crazy Celtics fan lady at the bar who kept yelling, "The fix is on! The fix is on!"

Allen's

So, Jeff, Jonathan, Jeremy, Sean and Jon decided to leave the comfort of their families and their warm, safe homes to head out in the cold to eat some Manhattan Capon Wings at Allen's on the Danforth. They soon realized that wings would only be the beginning of their eating odyssey. There were cheeseburgers and lamb and fries to try! This would be a FEAST! And when the meal was finally completed, they collectively decided that Allen's was just the first of many eating destinations to come for this brave foursome.

RATINGS:

Jon:
Wings: 4 out of 5
Cheeseburger: 4.5 out of 5
French Fries: 3 out of 5 (too chunky)
Sweet Potato Fries: 3 out of 5 (too chunky)
Beer (Steigl): 4 out of 5

Jeremy:
Wings: Too vinegary
Lamb Pie: Left something to be desired
Service: I was asked to switch chairs

Jeff:
On overall excellent first step into the greater world of the Capon Club… the wings while tasty and well prepared were certainly not deserving of the title “best in the city”. Beer selection was superb and having the matched glass was a nice touch. The star of the show was clearly the cheeseburger which is at least a contender for best in t.o. The surly service that was delivered actually enhanced the overall eating experience and made for a more enjoyable evening in my humble opinion. I look forward to future eating adventures!

Wings 3.5/5
Fries 3.5/5 (sweet potato fries are an overrated phenomenon in burger joints these days!)
Beer 4.5/5
Burger 4.8/5
Service (or lack thereof) 4.9/5

Overall 4.3/5

Jonathan:
Capon Wings: The first 4 were the perfect blend of saucy sweet and tangy (4 out of 5). The last 4 were way too rich for my palate. Please share responsibly with friends.
Steigl Beer: Don't know much about beers, but I know I like Steigl (4 out 5)
